What are the admission requirements for nursing students?
In order to be considered for admission, a candidate must meet the following criteria:

Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited program
Minimum of a 3.0 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) in a BSN program
Active, unencumbered Registered Nurse licensure in Pennsylvania.
Completion of undergraduate statistics, research and health assessment courses with a grade of C or better
No clinical experience required. One year preferred.

What is the transfer of credit policy?

A maximum of 9 graduate credits can be considered for transfer. Of these transfer credits, no more than 6 credits can be from the “3 P” courses (Advanced Pathophysiology, Advanced Pharmacology, Advanced Physical Assessment)

What are institutional/programmatic facilities and services available for educational use, including alternative methods of delivery?
The Graduate Nursing Program is delivered online in an asynchronous format. The clinical practicum courses are delivered in a face-to-face format under the supervision of qualified, licensed preceptors per the guidance of the Pennsylvania State Board of nursing and our accrediting bodies. For students enrolled in the Nurse Practitioner programs, there is a mandatory On Campus Immersion in which students learn and demonstrate skills in the School of Nursing’s state of the art Nursing Simulation Center in the Hamilton Boulevard Building. The Nursing Simulation Center offers students an adjunct to both classroom and clinical instruction utilizing low, medium, and high fidelity simulation experiences.

The College also offers peer tutoring services, a Writing Center, Information Technology Services for assistance with College and personal technology, as well as disability services for students with disabilities.

What are career opportunities available to graduates of the Graduate Program in the School of Nursing?
Graduates of the Graduate Nursing Programs are prepared in one of the specialties of Nurse Education, Nurse Administration, Family or Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner.

Graduates are eligible to sit for national certification exams, and meet all educational requirements to begin a career in their specialty.

Nurse Education graduates have taken positions as academic nurse educators in colleges and universities, within healthcare systems, and specialty practices.

Nurse Administration graduates are prepared to take positions in management and administration across the healthcare spectrum in hospitals, health systems, long term care facilities, community health organizations, and private practices to name a few.

Nurse Practitioner graduates have accepted positions in private practice, and large health systems across the spectrum of inpatient and outpatient settings and home health.

What are national and/or state legal requirements for eligibility for licensure or entry into the nursing profession for graduates of the Graduate Program in the School of Nursing?
State legal requirements for licensure eligibility or entry into the nursing profession can be located on the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing website.

All applicants to the program hold an active, unencumbered license as a Registered Nurse.
There is no additional licensure for Nurse Administration or Nurse Education required in order to practice in that role.

Nurse Practitioner graduates must sit for a national certification exam in their specialty, then apply to the PASBON for licensure as a CRNP. Of note: all CRNPs must maintain active RN licensure in addition to the CRNP.
