(December 17, 2019) — Cedar Crest College junior, Sulakshmi Vaid, was awarded a scholarship from the U.S. Department of State’s Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program in support of her study abroad experience.
According to gilmanscholarship.org, the program announced its Cycle 1 2019 recipients on December 4, 2019. “Nearly 1,500 outstanding U.S. undergraduate students were selected to receive scholarships to participate in credit-bearing study abroad programs and career-oriented internships in countries around the world.”
Vaid, who is studying political science and history, applied to the Gilman program to subsidize her spring semester abroad in Rome, Italy.
“When I first started college, the concept of going abroad was just an impossible dream for me because I knew it would be expensive and not affordable given my financial circumstances; but looking back, going college used to be an impossible dream for me for those very same reasons, and here I am now a junior in college. One dream came true for me, and the Gilman will help fund another one for me, and I couldn't be more honored and grateful for it,” said Vaid.
