Steps to Becoming a Registered Dietitian

Interested in becoming a registered dietitian? Here are the steps that you will need to take, and how the nutrition program at Cedar Crest College is designed to help you reach your goal:

  1. Complete a bachelor's degree* and receive a verification statement from an ACEND-accredited program. Note that the degree does not have to be in Nutrition.

  2. Complete an ACEND-accredited supervised practice dietetic internship program.

  3. Pass the Commission on Dietetic Registration's (CDR’s) dietetic registration exam.
  4. Gain licensure in your state of practice, if applicable.
  5. Maintain continuing education per CDR’s guidelines.

Beginning January 1, 2024, a minimum of a master's degree will be an eligibility requirement in order to take the CDR dietetic registration exam.
