The Allen Center for Nutrition

The Allen Center for Nutrition at Cedar Crest College offers nutrition majors at Cedar Crest a chance to participate in community outreach.

Cedar Crest College believes strongly in the concept of civic engagement, and The Allen Center for Nutrition at Cedar Crest College provides students with a wealth of opportunities to help promote health and wellness—specifically related to nutrition—in the community.

The Allen Center’s Nutrition Outreach Program

The Allen Center is dedicated to promoting nutrition-related research and study and sponsoring programs to educate all age groups on how to adopt a healthy lifestyle. Primary components of The Allen Center’s Nutrition Outreach Program include:

  • Community service projects and education on nutrition issues
  • Community workshops and lectures for community groups, health care facilities, school districts, daycare centers, senior citizens, low-income families and minority organizations
  • College workshops and lectures on healthy eating and fitness for the College's students, faculty and staff

Funding for Allen Center Programs

Allen Center programs are funded in part through generous and continuous support from the Allen Foundation of Midland, Mich. The Allen Foundation was established in 1992 by the late William Allen, former trustee of the College, and his wife, Roberta Ritter Allen, a Cedar Crest alumna, former trustee and benefactor of the College.
