Exercise Science

The Exercise Science major prepares students for graduate and professional training in a wide range of fitness and medical professions. Students will develop the skills that are critical in the growing fields of health, fitness, medicine and rehabilitation.

Students in this major will learn the importance of exercise science in various career settings such as exercise physiology, biomechanics, sports psychology, motor behavior, nutrition, athletic training, and sports medicine. They will explore the relationship between structure and function of the various body systems as they pertain to exercise and athletics. Students will study the physiological responses and adaptations to exercise as they relate to the following: neuromuscular, metabolic, circulatory, and respiratory pathways.

Upon graduation, students will be equipped to enter a variety of professional settings such as sport and wellness programs, community recreational agencies, hospitals and clinics, and both private and corporate agencies. This major also prepares students who wish to pursue advanced education in athletic training, exercise physiology, occupational therapy, physical therapy, cardiac rehabilitation, personal training, wellness coaching, athletic coaching or athletic management.
