Fiction Reading and book signing at Cedar Crest College
Eduardo C. Corral
Thursday, March 12, 2020
7 p.m. - 8 p.m.
1867 Room
Tompkins College Center
It's a pleasure to invite you to this semester's Visiting Writers Series reading and book signing with award-winning poet Eduardo C. Corral on Thursday, March 12 at 7 - 8PM in the 1867 Room of TCC. Be sure to mark your calendars!
Eduardo C. Corral is the author of Guillotine, forthcoming in August 2020 from Graywolf Press, and Slow Lightning, selected by Carl Phillips as the winner of the 2011 Yale Series of Younger Poets, making him the first Latino recipient of the award. As a son of Mexican immigrants, he captures the voices of undocumented immigrants, border patrol agents, and scorned lovers, writing dramatic portraits of contradiction, survival, and a deeply human, relentless interiority.
"Corral resists reductivism. Gay, Chicano, 'Illegal-American,' that’s all just language, and part of Corral’s point is that language . . . is fluid and dangerous and thrilling, now a cage, now a window out." —Carl Phillips, Yale Series of Younger Poets
“Eduardo Corral’s ravishing new collection begins with a ceremony of touch-hunger and self-abnegation. . . . a deep song of exile. It’s as if I am reading through smoke, through tears.”—Diane Seuss
Praised for his seamless blending of English and Spanish and his careful exploration of sexuality, Corral has received numerous honors and awards, including the Discovery/The Nation Award, the J. Howard and Barbara M.J. Wood Prize, a Whiting Writers’ Award, writing residencies to the MacDowell Colony and Yaddo, a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts, as well as the Holmes National Poetry Prize and the Hodder Fellowship, both from Princeton University. He was a founding fellow of the CantoMundo Writers Conference. His poems have appeared in Best American Poetry 2012, New England Review, Ploughshares, and The New York Times. He teaches in the MFA program in creative writing at North Carolina State University and lives in North Carolina.
