1867 Room
Tompkin's College Center
Please join us for a fiction reading and book signing with award-winning local author Bathsheba Monk on Wednesday, April 3 at 7 - 8 p.m. in the 1867 Room of TCC.
Bathsheba Monk is the author of seven novels, three plays, editor at Blue Heron Book Works, the creator of the popular Swanson Herbinko Mystery series, and writes young adult novels under the pen name, Maddy Wells. She also works on original screenplays for television.
Her collection of short stories, Now You See It . . . Stories from Cokesville, PA, and novel Nude Walker bring to life the coal and steel towns of Pennsylvania depicting underrepresented experiences in working-class, post-industrial America.
"Monk . . . sets her stories in the fictional town of Cokesville, where gardens grow through slag heaps, women scrub their sidewalks free of soot, and men scrounge for jobs that are likely to kill or maim . . . the stories use deadpan humor to combat a sense of hopelessness and economic futility." —The New Yorker on Now You See It
"Monk's authority (she hails from Pennsylvania and served in the Army) and a winning mix of humor, mysticism, and sympathy for people adapting to a swiftly changing world make for an appealing tale." Publisher's Weekly on Nude Walker.
