Majoring in criminal justice is a smart move for students with an interest in law enforcement, crime prevention, and social justice. It also makes a great secondary major for students studying in psychology, social work, or forensic science.

The criminal justice program at Cedar Crest is designed to be tailored to meet each student’s career goals. During your studies, you must select one or more of the following “elective packages” in addition to your required criminal justice courses. This will allow you to develop a level of depth in a particular aspect of criminal justice. The packages are:
Ethical Leadership
This package will allow you to gain a deeper understanding into how class, race, and gender affect criminal behavior and public policy. You will also develop leadership skills that will help you make ethical and humane decisions in your profession. Fair, ethical and rational decision-making is essential to the criminal justice system.
Criminal Behavior and Deviance
Examine human behavior from a social, psychological, and environmental perspective. This elective package focuses strongly on crime prevention and includes our cutting-edge courses “Crime and Place” and “Corrections.”
Juvenile Studies
Interested in the juvenile justice system? By choosing this elective package, you’ll focus on understanding and preventing child abuse and neglect, and explore human behavior and the physical and mental development of children, teens and adults.
