Traditional Admissions

Today, virtually all types of corporations and institutions are seeking graduates who have excellent communication skills. At Cedar Crest, you will benefit from both expert instruction and numerous opportunities to hone your skills through internships, hands-on study, campus newspaper and radio, and your senior project. Graduates of our programs have gone on to careers as journalists, videographers, producer/directors of media communications companies, and promotions directors.

Whether your interest lies in news, entertainment, social media, public relations, advertising, journalism, Web communication, multimedia projects, TV, film, or computer graphics, animation, and games, Cedar Crest College will provide you with the knowledge you need to utilize today’s media tools—and the ability to adapt to the changes that will inevitably come. Here, you will learn to write, speak and design creatively and effectively in a wide variety of media.

Hands-on study
Starting your first semester on campus, you will encounter numerous opportunities to communicate to a variety of audiences using writing, speech and design and employing a variety of media.

Career-building internships
Previous students in our program have interned at MTV, WB17 Philadelphia, The Morning Call, Lehigh Valley Style Magazine, and local nonprofits and small businesses.

Campus media opportunities
Become a staff member at the student radio station and/or newspaper, starting your first semester here.

Senior seminar
You will choose between a senior research thesis or a senior professional project. Previous seniors have organized concerts, planned nonprofit fundraisers, designed and published websites and magazines, and conducted research projects in gender studies and public relations.

Unique course offerings
Our programs emphasize development of complementary skills in areas such as women’s leadership, interpersonal relationships and creativity.

Mission Statement

The mission of the communication department is to enhance a student’s ability to communicate and deepen her knowledge of communication as a discipline. The program promotes a critical understanding of communication forms, content, institutions and practices. Our primary aim is to prepare a student to be an educated citizen in a world dominated by media information and persuasion, while also preparing her to be an ethical and informed practitioner and/or researcher.
