Learning shouldn’t be limited to the classroom. Explore your interests, take part in exciting activities and gain valuable hands-on experience by joining one or more of the organizations mentioned below. The groups arrange for speakers, panels and networking opportunities. Field trips to companies or to major northeast cities are a regular feature. Students from throughout the college are welcomed to join the clubs listed below.
The Accounting Club provides networking opportunities for students, faculty and professionals in the field of accounting. The group informs members about different career opportunities in accounting and assists students in reaching their career goals through mentoring. Students also discuss issues related to the profession.
The Investment Club manages a stock portfolio worth over $55,000. The portfolio (originally worth $25,000) was donated to the College so that students could learn to analyze companies and make investment decisions through hands-on experience. Since individuals have increasing responsibility for managing their own pensions, they need to understand the stock market and how to select stocks for investment. The Investment Club, which is open to all students, provides the perfect opportunity. The Club also takes field trips to Wall Street, participates in educational seminars at the New York Stock Exchange, and brings speakers from the world of finance to campus to conduct workshops.
The Marketing Club at Cedar Crest College is passionate about marketing, charity work and planning activities that get the College community involved. The charity Made for Water, Made for Love, has been supported by the Marketing Club in the past. Currently, club members are working on developing a Creativity Day to take place during the spring semester, as well as a collaboration activity with the Accounting Club and Investment Club. The Cedar Crest Marketing Club is currently applying for membership to the American Marketing Association. As a member, you may also participate in marketing-related club trips to such places as King of Prussia Mall. All students are welcome to join, whether they are marketing majors or not.
As part of a four-year institution accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP), students in the Cedar Crest College business program are eligible to apply for membership into one of the most prestigious honor societies in the world—Delta Mu Delta International Honor Society in Business. The Cedar Crest College chapter is Lambda Chi.
Delta Mu Delta membership provides recognition for a lifetime, and membership looks good on any business student’s resume. Also, the organization’s exclusive online community, inCircle, provides peer-to-peer networking and job offers.
The SHRM club is the Society of Human Resources Management student organization that meets on campus in Curtis Hall weekly to explore and envision the current reality and future trends of Human Resources. The club, which is open to all students, regardless of major; has a rich history and legacy of education, service, professional engagement and fun. The club is connected to the Lehigh Valley SHRM chapter and attends their training events and to network with HR professionals in the region. The students who join this club benefit from the numerous companies and organizations, both profit and non-profit, who offer internships and full time positions upon graduation. Fall events include an Excel technology training seminar, a resume and cover letter event, as well as Trunk or Treat for the children in the community. The club meets every Thursday, from 11:00am to 12 noon in Curtis Hall, Room 241 and everyone is invited. The club also has a Thursday night meeting once per month for students who cannot attend the day meeting. The officers for this fall include: Ashley Ross – President, Salika Sadek - Vice President, Sierra Lockhart - Secretary and Hannah Stott – Treasurer. Two Business professors serve as faculty advisors, namely Christine Lombardo-Zaun and David Burke.
